Define the Term “Notional Value” in a Derivatives Contract.

Notional value is the total face value of the underlying asset controlled by the derivatives contract. It is the amount upon which the cash flows or settlement payments are calculated.

For a futures contract, it is the contract size multiplied by the current price. It is important because it represents the total exposure of the position, which is often much larger than the margin posted.
