How Are Financial Derivatives Used to Hedge against IPO Market Volatility?

Investors use derivatives, primarily options and futures, to hedge the risk of price volatility following an IPO. For example, an investor who buys IPO shares might also buy put options on the stock.

If the share price drops, the loss on the shares is offset by the profit from the put options, effectively insuring the position.
