How Can a Trader “Roll” a Covered Call to Increase the Maximum Profit Potential?

A trader can "roll up and out" by buying back the current short call and simultaneously selling a new call with a higher strike price and a later expiration date. Rolling up increases the potential maximum profit (higher strike), and rolling out brings in more premium (later expiration), further increasing the profit buffer and time for the asset to appreciate.
