How Does a Hybrid PoW/PoS System Attempt to Combine Security Benefits?

A hybrid PoW/PoS system uses both consensus mechanisms, often with PoW for initial block creation and PoS for transaction finality or governance. The goal is to leverage the high cost of hashrate acquisition from PoW to deter 51% attacks, while using the economic finality and lower energy consumption of PoS.

This attempts to create a more robust security model by requiring an attacker to compromise both the hashrate and the staked capital.
