How Does ‘Maximum Extractable Value’ (MEV) Relate to Front-Running in Decentralized Finance (DeFi)?

MEV is the profit miners or validators can extract by arbitrarily including, excluding, or reordering transactions within a block. Front-running is a specific form of MEV where a validator sees a pending large transaction and places their own trade immediately before it to profit from the resulting price movement.

It is a systemic issue in public blockchain transaction ordering, exploiting the transparency of the mempool.
