How Does the Choice between ASIC and GPU Affect a Miner’s Ability to Switch Coins?

ASIC miners are locked into a single hashing algorithm, severely limiting their ability to switch coins. If the coin they mine becomes unprofitable, the ASIC hardware may become obsolete.

GPU miners, conversely, are highly flexible and can easily switch between various Proof-of-Work coins (e.g. from Ethereum to other GPU-mineable coins). This versatility provides a better hedge against single-coin price risk and sudden changes in mining difficulty.
