How Does the Concept of a ‘Margin Call’ Apply to Options Trading?

In options trading, a margin call applies primarily to traders who are selling (writing) options naked or on margin, as they face unlimited loss potential. If the collateral backing their short position becomes insufficient due to adverse price movement, they receive a margin call to deposit more funds to cover the potential liability, similar to futures.
