How Does the Dividend Yield (Or Funding Rate in Crypto) Affect the Decision to Exercise an American Call Option Early?

A higher dividend yield or a positive funding rate (cost to hold the underlying) makes early exercise more likely. The holder exercises the call option early to capture the dividend/funding benefit immediately.

If the benefit is greater than the remaining time value, exercising early is optimal.
