How Does the Theta of a Weekly Option Compare to a Quarterly Option?

A weekly option, having a much shorter time to expiration, will have a significantly higher absolute Theta than a quarterly option, assuming similar moneyness. The time value of the weekly option must decay entirely in a few days, leading to a large daily loss.

The quarterly option's time value is spread over a much longer period, resulting in a smaller daily decay.
