How Does the Time Decay (‘theta’) Affect the Value of an Option’s Premium?

Theta is an options Greek that measures the rate at which an option's premium loses value as time passes, assuming all other factors remain constant. This is known as time decay.

Since all options have an expiration date, the time value component of the premium constantly decreases, accelerating significantly in the last few weeks before expiration.
