How Does Volatility Impact the Cost of the Purchased Put?

Increased market volatility, measured by implied volatility (IV), directly increases the premium of the purchased put option. Higher IV means a greater perceived chance of a large price swing, making the insurance provided by the put more valuable and thus more expensive.

This higher cost must be offset by the premium from the sold call to maintain a favorable net cost for the collar.
