How Is the Holding Period Determined for a Purchased Option Contract?

The holding period for a purchased option begins on the day after the option is acquired and ends on the day it is sold, expires, or is exercised. If the option is exercised, the holding period of the acquired underlying asset begins on the day after the exercise date, regardless of the option's holding period.
