What Is a Decentralized Sequencer and How Does It Relate to MEV on Layer 2?

A decentralized sequencer is a set of mutually distrusting nodes that collectively agree on the order of transactions on a Layer 2 rollup. Unlike a single, centralized sequencer, this model prevents any one entity from arbitrarily reordering transactions for MEV.

It aims to maintain the speed and low cost of L2 while restoring the censorship resistance and fairness of a decentralized ordering mechanism.
