What Is a ‘Delegate’ or ‘Block Producer’ in a DPoS System?

A delegate, or Block Producer (BP), is a node operator elected by the token holders to perform the essential functions of the blockchain. These functions include validating transactions, proposing new blocks, and ensuring the network's security and stability.

They are incentivized with transaction fees or block rewards for their service. If a BP acts maliciously or fails to perform, they can be voted out by the community.
