What Is a “Deleveraging” Event in the Context of Futures Trading?

A deleveraging event is a process where an exchange forcibly reduces the leverage of traders. This occurs in extreme market conditions, often as part of the Auto-Deleveraging (ADL) system, to manage systemic risk and cover losses that exceed the insurance fund's capacity.

It is a necessary measure to prevent the exchange from becoming insolvent.
