What Is a ‘Key Image’ and Its Purpose in Ring Signatures?

A Key Image is a cryptographic identifier derived from the spending key that is unique to each transaction output. Its purpose is to prevent double-spending without revealing which of the ring members is the true spender.

If a Key Image appears on the blockchain more than once, it signals a double-spend attempt. It ensures the integrity of the ledger while maintaining anonymity.
