What Is a “Limit Order Book Sweep” and Why Is It Used?

A limit order book sweep is an instruction to an execution algorithm to aggressively consume all available liquidity up to a specified price level across all available venues. It is used when a trader prioritizes speed and full execution over minimizing slippage.

The sweep is designed to capture all the volume available at the best prices immediately, often to establish a large position quickly or to react to a sudden market event. It guarantees execution but can incur significant slippage.
