What Is a “Seed Phrase” (Mnemonic) and Its Role in an HD Wallet?

A seed phrase, or mnemonic phrase, is a sequence of 12 to 24 common words that represents the master private key of an HD wallet. Its role is to provide a human-readable and easily writable backup for the entire wallet.

If the wallet device is lost or damaged, the user can restore all their keys and funds on any compatible wallet by simply entering the seed phrase.
