What Is ‘Hash Rate’ in the Context of Cryptocurrency Mining?

Hash rate is the speed at which a mining machine performs cryptographic calculations, or hashes, to solve the block puzzle. It is measured in hashes per second (H/s, kH/s, MH/s, GH/s, TH/s, etc.).

A higher hash rate increases a miner's chance of solving the next block and earning the reward. The total network hash rate reflects the combined computational power of all miners on the network.
