What Is the Expiration Date in a Futures Contract?

The expiration date, or settlement date, is the specific future day when the obligations of the futures contract must be fulfilled. On this date, the contract ceases to exist.

For cash-settled crypto futures, the final settlement price is determined, and the profit or loss is credited or debited to the trader's account. This date is fixed when the contract is initiated.
