What Is the ‘Hash Rate’ and How Does It Measure Network Security?

Hash rate is the total combined computational power being used to mine and process transactions on a Proof-of-Work blockchain. It is measured in hashes per second (H/s).

A higher hash rate indicates a more secure network because it means an attacker would need a proportionally larger and more expensive amount of computing power to achieve the 51% threshold required for an attack.
