Why Are American-Style Options Typically Not Used for Options on Futures Contracts?

Options on futures contracts are often European-style because futures are typically marked-to-market daily, meaning profits and losses are settled each day. Early exercise of a futures option would complicate this daily settlement process and potentially disrupt the hedging strategies of market participants.

Furthermore, futures contracts themselves do not have dividends or carrying costs that would incentivize early exercise.
